Iranian detained in Bali<\/p>\n
TUBAN, Bali: Immigration officers have detained an Iranian
\nidentified as Seyed Jafar, 35, for entering Indonesia using two
\npassports.<\/p>\n
\"Jafar, who is now detained at the quarantine cell at the Bali
\nimmigration office, was nabbed by the officers at the departure
\ngate of the airport on Saturday,\" I Gede Widiartha, head of the
\nimmigration office, said on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Widiartha said Jafar appeared to be in a state of confusion
\nbefore boarding a plane heading for Tokyo.<\/p>\n
During the questioning, it was uncovered that Jafar had two
\npassports -- an Iranian passport under his own name and a Spanish
\npassport under the name of Alonso Gonzales, Widiartha said.<\/p>\n
He said that Jafar entered Bali on a Thai Airways flight on
\nJan. 5 using his own passport, but tried to leave for Tokyo on a
\nGaruda flight using his Spanish passport.<\/p>\n
Antara's reported that last year the Bali immigration office
\ndetained 18 foreigners attempting to travel from Bali illegally.<\/p>\n
The 18 came from South Asian countries, including India and
\nAfghanistan, and Middle East countries, including Iran and Iraq.<\/p>\n
\"The illegal immigrants mostly try to search for political
\nasylum in Australia due to unfavorable security conditions in
\ntheir own countries,\" Widiartha said. -- Antara<\/p>",
