Iran has vowed to avenge the death of its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah\nAli Khamenei. The country\u2019s top security body has stressed that\nretaliation will be carried out \u2018at the appropriate time\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018The clenched fist of the martyred Leader at the time of his passing\nwill remain an eternal symbol of Iran\u2019s national security doctrine,\u2019\nsaid Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, secretary of Iran\u2019s Supreme National\nSecurity Council, in a statement reported by Press TV on Thursday.\nZolqadr, a veteran commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps\n(IRGC) who was appointed to the top security post on 24 March following\nthe assassination of his predecessor Ali Larijani in a US-Israeli\nattack, issued the warning ahead of Khamenei\u2019s funeral ceremony.<\/p>\n
\u2018The file for avenging the sacred blood of the great Khamenei and\nIran\u2019s oppressed martyrs remains open,\u2019 Zolqadr stressed. \u2018The\nperpetrators and those who ordered this crime will, at the appropriate\ntime \u2013 which will not be long \u2013 face proportionate punishment at the\nhands of the true elements.\u2019<\/p>\n
Iran is currently preparing to hold a grand funeral ceremony for\nKhamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli strike in late February. Large\nphotographs of Khamenei have been installed at the Grand Mosalla complex\nin Tehran, as workers prepare for the massive ceremony. The funeral,\nwhich was delayed due to the escalation of war in the Middle East, is\nset to take place as Iran and the US observe a ceasefire following the\nsigning of a preliminary agreement to end the conflict.<\/p>\n
Khamenei, a spiritual figure for many Shia adherents, died at the age\nof 86 at his residence in central Tehran on 28 February, the first day\nthe war erupted. The public funeral ceremony is scheduled to begin on\nSaturday, 4 July. His body will lie in state at the Grand Mosalla\ncomplex, officially known as the Imam Khomeini Mosalla, in central\nTehran, a venue typically used for large Friday prayers, official\nceremonies, and major religious gatherings.
