He emphasised energy security and the need to bolster resilience through infrastructure and human resources amid uncertain global conditions.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The conflict between Iran and the United States
(US) and Israel, which has been heating up, is drawing the attention of
the Indonesian government. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and
Development (IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) revealed President
Prabowo Subianto’s message for Indonesia to strengthen self-reliance in
food, energy, and water amid global uncertainties. He said this after
attending World Engineering Day (WED) in Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 March
2026.

According to him, the escalation of warfare in the Middle East
presents direct and indirect impacts for the world, including Indonesia.
“This is not an easy time for the world and it is ironic during the holy
month of Ramadan that we honour, there is fighting, conflict,
casualties, destruction,” he said, “and all this will surely have direct
and indirect impacts.”

In economic terms, last night we discussed the potential for serious
disruption to energy security. Not only for Indonesia but for the
world.

In this context, AHY said Prabowo emphasised the importance of
strengthening self-reliance, particularly in food security, energy
security, and water security. He noted that water issues are often
underestimated in their urgency, yet they are fundamental to life and
development. “We often do not realise that water problems are also
fundamental. When in the dry season we have less water, drought, crop
failures, insufficient supplies for households; during the rainy season,
especially extreme rainfall, we face floods, and so on. And our water is
often not of good quality and suitable for consumption,” he
explained.

AHY emphasised that the government will continue to safeguard this
self-reliance agenda. If shocks to global energy prices occur due to
prolonged conflict, Indonesia must have the right steps to maintain
national stability. “Therefore, we focus on safeguarding the
self-reliance. And if there are shocks to world energy prices, for
example, we must have the right steps,” he said.

He acknowledged that the escalation of Middle East conflict is
difficult to predict in duration and impact. However, Indonesia must
remain prepared. “I think we all must be ready; we will continue to push
infrastructure to build self-reliance in food, energy and water,
including for human resources,” he concluded.
",
