        "content": "<p>Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran is working towards joining the membership of\nthe BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), stated Iranian Foreign Minister\nAbbas Araghchi on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pursuing this,\u201d Araghchi said, as quoted from his official\nTelegram channel, while responding to media inquiries regarding the\npossibility of Iran joining the BRICS bank.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday (11\/9), Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated at a\nBRICS business forum in New Delhi that the NDB is expected to become the\nprimary structure for financing various infrastructure and energy\nprojects within the group\u2019s member states using national currencies.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, in August 2024, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran,\nAbdolnaser Hemmati, stated that Iran would soon join the BRICS-owned\nNDB.<\/p>\n<p>He also mentioned that Tehran is promoting bilateral and multilateral\ncurrency cooperation with BRICS member nations.<\/p>\n<p>Iran, which has endured the negative impacts of large-scale sanctions\nfor many years, routinely calls for the establishment of independent and\nsustainable financial mechanisms to counter such restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>BRICS is an intergovernmental association formed in 2006 by Brazil,\nRussia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Several other countries have joined BRICS since 2024. India holds the\nrotating BRICS leadership this year and is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit\non 12\u201313 September in New Delhi.<\/p>",
