Iran's parliamentary security chief, Ebrahim Azizi, has proposed that the government implement a toll system for all ships entering the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, citing national interests. This comes amid failed US-Iran peace talks in Pakistan, where the US expressed disappointment and returned without an agreement, leading to two oil tankers reversing course while a third continued. The initiative could significantly impact global oil trade routes, given the strait’s critical role in transporting about 20% of the world’s oil supplies.

Tehran (ANTARA) - Every ship crossing the Strait of Hormuz will be
required to pay a toll, said Ebrahim Azizi, Chairman of Iran’s
Parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, on
Sunday. “The government must establish a management and control system
for the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. Every ship wishing to
enter based on Iran’s national interests must pay a toll,” Azizi told RT
media. Regarding the negotiations between the US and Iranian delegations
in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Saturday, Azizi assessed that the United
States needs a peace agreement more than Iran. He also stated that Iran
does not trust the United States and that the country is not
trustworthy. US Vice President J.D. Vance, who served as the main
negotiator for the American side, stated on Sunday that both countries
failed to reach an agreement in those lengthy talks, and reaffirmed that
the US delegation would return to its country without bringing any
agreement results. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported on Sunday, citing a
ship tracking service, that two large oil tankers, Agios Fanourios I
heading to Iraq and Shalamar flying the Pakistani flag heading to the
United Arab Emirates (UAE), turned back after the announcement of the
peace talks’ failure. Meanwhile, a third ship, the Aframax-class Mombasa
B, continued its voyage.
",
