        "content": "<p>Moscow \u2013 Iran\u2019s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei has sustained\ninjuries but is in good condition, said Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry\nspokesman Esmaeil Baghaei.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Mojtaba) is injured, but his condition is good. I do not know\nwhen he will deliver his first speech as supreme leader of Iran,\u201d\nBaghaei told the newspaper Corriere della Sera.<\/p>\n<p>Three or four persons competed for the position of Iran\u2019s supreme\nleader, added Baghaei, but the majority of the Assembly of Experts has\nselected Khamenei Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding ceasefire terms, Baghaei stated that his side is currently\nfocused on efforts to protect Iran\u2019s territorial integrity and\nsovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn June 2025, after 12 days, the United States and Israel said, \u2018Let\nus stop\u2019; and we stopped. The ceasefire call is a funny charade. That is\nwhy the entire country is now determined to defend itself,\u201d said\nBaghaei.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, on 28 February, the United States and Israel launched\nattacks against targets in Iran, causing damage and civilian casualties.\nIran responded by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities\nin the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>America and Israel initially claimed their attacks were necessary to\ncounter what they considered threats stemming from Iran\u2019s nuclear\nprogramme. However, they quickly clarified that the attacks were carried\nout because they wanted to see a change of power in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba\u2019s father, was killed on the first day\nof the US-Israeli military operation. The Islamic Republic of Iran\ndeclared 40 days of mourning.<\/p>\n<p>Russian President Vladimir Putin described Khamenei\u2019s killing as a\ncynical violation of international law. The Russian Foreign Ministry\ncondemned the US-Israeli operation and called for immediate\nde-escalation and cessation of hostilities.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, on Monday (9 March), Iran\u2019s Assembly of Experts\nconfirmed that Mojtaba Khamenei has been selected as the new supreme\nleader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.<\/p>",
