PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) has assured that the national fertiliser\nsupply remains safeguarded amid the Iran\u2013Israel war. Pupuk Indonesia\u2019s\nCorporate Secretary Yehezkiel Adiperwira said the company has production\ncapacity and stockpiles of raw materials adequate to maintain fertiliser\nsupply for farmers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the midst of the geopolitical dynamics taking place, we are\nensuring the national fertiliser supply remains safe so that farmers can\ncontinue planting without worrying about fertiliser availability,\u201d\nYehezkiel was quoted as saying by Antara, Saturday, 7 March 2026.<\/p>\n
He noted that currently Pupuk Indonesia Group\u2019s production capacity\nstands at 14.5 million tonnes per year for various fertiliser types.\nSpecifically for urea fertiliser, Pupuk Indonesia\u2019s production capacity\ncan meet the entire domestic demand.<\/p>\n
Fundamentally, national urea production also maintains a high degree\nof self-sufficiency because its main raw material\u2014natural gas\u2014can be\nsupplied domestically with the supply and price already regulated by the\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
Thus, although escalation of conflict in the Strait of Hormuz occurs,\nhe said, this does not directly affect national urea fertiliser supply.\n\u201cPupuk Indonesia is the largest urea producer in the Asia-Pacific, the\nMiddle East, and North Africa region. With that strong production\ncapacity, we have the ability to keep fertiliser supply optimal for\nIndonesian farmers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In addition to production capacity, Pupuk Indonesia strengthens\nsupply chain resilience through diversification of strategic fertiliser\nraw material sources that are still imported. Some fertiliser raw\nmaterials are not naturally available in Indonesia, such as phosphate\n(P) and potassium (K), which are important components in NPK fertiliser\nproduction.<\/p>\n
Currently, Yehezkiel said Pupuk Indonesia obtains phosphate (P)\nsupplies from North African countries such as Morocco, Tunisia, and\nAlgeria. Meanwhile, potassium (K) supplies come from Canada and Laos,\nwhich are outside the Middle East conflict zone, so the risk of supply\ndisruption can be minimised.<\/p>\n
As for other fertiliser raw materials that could be directly affected\nby the Iran\u2013Israel war escalation, sulphur (S) comes from the United\nArab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait. Nevertheless, sources of sulphur (S)\nfor Pupuk Indonesia are also available from other countries, such as\nCanada, so the risk of supply disruption can be anticipated.<\/p>\n
Beyond diversifying raw material sources, Pupuk Indonesia is also\nstrengthening raw material stock management by maintaining adequate\nsupplies of phosphate, potassium, and sulphur, currently at levels\nsufficient to support production.<\/p>\n
This stock management strengthening is also an anticipatory step\nagainst potential increases in logistics costs due to rising global oil\nprices.
