Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued a statement after\nthe country was hit by a fresh round of US sanctions aimed at crippling\nthe Tehran regime. The new sanctions come as the conflict with Iran\ndrags on and diplomatic efforts have stalled.<\/p>\n
In his latest statement, as reported by Anadolu Agency and Press TV\non Saturday (29\/8\/2026), Mojtaba said that increasing reliance on\ndomestic production could be the key to overcoming Iran\u2019s economic\nproblems. He also called for a gradual reduction in the dominant role of\nthe US dollar in the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
In a message marking Iran\u2019s Government Week, Mojtaba urged the\ngovernment to give \u2018serious attention\u2019 to interconnected economic and\npublic welfare challenges, including inflation, unemployment, price\ncontrol, and the regulation of goods and services markets.<\/p>\n
\u2018The main key to overcoming all these problems lies in increasing\nreliance on domestic production,\u2019 the Supreme Leader said.<\/p>\n
Mojtaba called for efforts to boost economic growth, increase\ninvestment and direct it towards beneficial and important sectors,\nstimulate production, \u2018gradually reduce the important role of the\ndollar\u2019, and ultimately place the entire range of \u2018resistance economy\u2019\npolicies as a top priority on the government\u2019s economic agenda.<\/p>\n
Mojtaba, who has not appeared in public since taking office in early\nMarch, also stressed the importance of ensuring adequate supplies of\nbasic and special goods. He added that if domestic production is\ninsufficient, imports should be used \u2018appropriately and wisely\u2019.<\/p>\n
According to Mojtaba, efforts to boost production and manage imports\nand prices can gradually reduce the \u2018dark spots\u2019 in Iran\u2019s economy until\nthe problems disappear completely.<\/p>\n
The Iranian rial fell to a new record low against the US dollar on\nthe free market this week, breaching 2,000,000 rials per US dollar, as\nWashington imposed additional sanctions to paralyse Tehran\u2019s\neconomy.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the Supreme Leader described \u2018the application of\ntechnology and innovation proposed by Iran\u2019s young elite\u2019 as an\nimportant issue. He assessed that timely use of these could produce\nsignificant progress in agriculture, industry, communications, education\nand other sectors.<\/p>\n
Mojtaba also praised the government of President Masoud Pezeshkian\nduring wartime, saying it had managed to provide goods and services\nneeded by the people, repair damaged critical facilities and manage\nenergy supplies amid \u2018the restrictions and conspiracies of the American\nZionist enemy\u2019 and \u2018the intensification of sanctions and blockades\u2019.\nMojtaba praised Pezeshkian as a \u2018sincere and caring\u2019 President.<\/p>\n
In his statement, Mojtaba also called for measures to maintain \u2018unity\nand preserve social cohesion\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018Undoubtedly, any statement that breaks morale and weakens national\nor public motivation, and any form of false dichotomy \u2013 such as war or\nnegotiation, consensus or extremism, compromise or war-mongering \u2013 which\nin the past has caused direct or indirect losses to our beloved people,\ncould have similar effects in the future,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
