Speaking to the Iranian\nnews agency ISNA on Friday, the foreign minister also dismissed reports\nsuggesting that a 60-day ceasefire had to be extended. The ceasefire was\nbased on the Islamabad memorandum, a framework for a peace agreement\nwith the US mediated by Pakistan in June. \u201cWhat is stated in the\nIslamabad memorandum is the end of the war, not a ceasefire. The United\nStates violated the memorandum and fighting resumed. Therefore, there is\nno 60-day ceasefire that needs to be extended,\u201d he said. He explained\nthat the 60-day period in the memorandum was intended as time to conduct\nnegotiations to reach a final agreement, not as a ceasefire period.\nAraghchi said Iran\u2019s negotiations with Oman are still ongoing, but are\nentirely separate from any discussions with Washington. He explained\nthat the talks are technical negotiations focused on establishing new\nshipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, as previous routes are no\nlonger suitable. \u201cWe are currently designing a temporary route that will\nlater become a permanent route,\u201d he said.
