        "content": "<p>Tehran (ANTARA) - Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran\u2019s Foreign\nMinistry, on Saturday (2\/5) condemned the statement by US President\nDonald Trump, who referred to the seizure of Iranian ships by the US as\n\u201cpiracy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe US President has openly described the illegal seizure of Iranian\nships as \u2018piracy\u2019, boldly boasting that \u2018we act like pirates\u2019,\u201d Baghaei\nsaid in a post on the X platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not merely a slip of the tongue. It is a direct and\nincriminating admission of the criminal nature of their actions against\ninternational maritime shipping,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, on Friday (1\/5), Trump boasted that the US Navy was\nacting \u201clike pirates\u201d in its blockade of Iranian ports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe seize ships, we seize cargo, we seize oil. It\u2019s a very profitable\nbusiness,\u201d Trump said at an event in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Baghaei called on the international community, United Nations member\nstates, and the UN Secretary-General to firmly reject any normalisation\nof this \u201cblatant violation\u201d of international law.<\/p>\n<p>The US imposed a blockade on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz after\npost-ceasefire negotiations with Tehran in Islamabad, Pakistan\u2019s\ncapital, on 11-12 April failed to yield an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The ceasefire between Iran, the US, and Israel took effect on 8 April\nafter 40 days of fighting.<\/p>\n<p>On 28 February, the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Tehran\nand other cities in Iran, killing Iran\u2019s supreme leader at the time, Ali\nKhamenei, as well as several senior commanders and Iranian\ncivilians.<\/p>\n<p>Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting\nIsrael as well as US bases and assets in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>Iran also tightened control over the Strait of Hormuz and closed safe\npassages for ships affiliated with Israel and the US.<\/p>",
