"summary": "The Iranian government estimates that the 40-day armed conflict with the United States and its allies has inflicted economic losses of $270 billion, equivalent to approximately Rp 4.629 quadrillion, primarily due to damage to energy infrastructure and disruptions in oil and gas exports. This initial figure is expected to feature prominently in ongoing international negotiations for compensation, as the war has also led to the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs and widespread destruction of industrial and public facilities. Recovery is projected to take years, hampered by limited access to foreign technology and investment.",
"content": "<p>JAKARTA \u2014 The economic impact of the armed conflict between Iran and\nthe United States (US) and its allies is beginning to emerge on a\nmassive scale. The Iranian government estimates that the economic losses\nfrom the war, which lasted around 40 days, amount to $270 billion,\nequivalent to approximately Rp 4.629 quadrillion (assuming an exchange\nrate of Rp 17,145 per US dollar). Quoting Anadolu Agency on Thursday\n(16\/4\/2026), the Iranian government spokesperson, Fatemeh Mohajerani,\nstated that this figure is still an initial estimate. In its statement,\nthe Iranian government emphasised that these losses must be included in\nthe discussions of the ongoing international negotiations. This demand\nfor compensation arises amid plans for new talks with the US following\nthe easing of the conflict. War damage has not only affected military\nfacilities but has also spread to civilian infrastructure and the\neconomy. Damage to the energy sector is one of the most significant,\ngiven that Iran is one of the major oil and gas producers in the region.\nDisruptions to these facilities have not only impacted domestic\nproduction but have also hindered exports, which have long been a\nprimary source of national revenue. In addition, various industrial\nfacilities and public infrastructure have also suffered damage. The\nIranian government states that post-war economic recovery is estimated\nto take years, due to the extensive scale of the damage and limited\naccess to technology and foreign investment. The economic impact of the\nwar is also reflected in the labour market conditions. Reports from DW\nindicate that the conflict has caused the loss of hundreds of thousands\nof jobs in Iran.<\/p>",
