The Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has confirmed\nthat all medical costs for two santri victims of an alleged arson at an\nIslamic boarding school in Central Lombok will be fully covered. NTB\nGovernor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal stressed that the victims must receive\nhealthcare and education without hindrance, while urging that similar\ncases not recur.<\/p>\n
Iqbal said both santri are now receiving medical treatment at the NTB\nProvincial General Hospital (RSUD). Since information about the case was\nreceived last June, the NTB Provincial Government has coordinated with\nthe Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) to ensure the\nvictims\u2019 handling proceeds swiftly and in stages.<\/p>\n
\u2018As soon as we learned of this, we immediately communicated with\nForkopimda so that in handling it, albeit in stages, our colleagues in\nCentral Lombok, including the Police Chief, moved quickly to deal with\nit. Now the province is also directly involved,\u2019 Iqbal stated in Mataram\non Wednesday (15\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n
Iqbal confirmed that all treatment costs are being covered so as not\nto burden the victims\u2019 families. The NTB Provincial Government has also\nconveyed this to the leadership of the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives (DPR RI).<\/p>\n
\u2018We have already informed the DPR RI leadership that all treatment\ncosts will be borne by the RSUD,\u2019 Iqbal explained.<\/p>\n
According to Iqbal, the two victims were previously treated at\nBhayangkara Hospital Mataram for security reasons. Nevertheless, the\nRSUD NTB medical team remained on standby to manage the recovery\nprocess. Assistance is also being continuously channelled through the\nNTB Baznas, the Social Service, and the Central Lombok Regional\nGovernment.<\/p>\n
Iqbal said the government\u2019s current focus is not only on the victims\u2019\nphysical recovery but also on ensuring their right to education is\nfulfilled. He emphasised that every pesantren or residential school\nadministrator must promptly report any incident so that victim handling\nis not delayed.<\/p>\n
\u2018The message I want to convey is that this serves as a collective\nlesson for all pesantren and residential schools in NTB. If we manage a\nresidential school, then responsibility for all dynamics within it must\nbe prioritised. If something like this happens, immediate handling and\nreporting is a form of responsibility so that the child\u2019s right to\nproper care is not delayed,\u2019 he explained.<\/p>\n
Iqbal said the victims\u2019 recovery must remain a priority even if a\npeace agreement between parties emerges. This is especially important as\nboth victims are still junior high school students.<\/p>\n
\u2018We have coordinated with the NTB Regional Office of the Ministry of\nReligious Affairs to ensure their education is guaranteed. Their\nschooling must not be neglected. We will strive by all means so that\nthese children can return to school,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Iqbal urged the public not to generalise the case to all Islamic\nboarding schools in NTB. According to him, the case is casuistic and\ndoes not reflect the governance of the thousands of pesantren in the\nregion.<\/p>\n
\u2018We have thousands of pesantren, so do not generalise. This is a\ncasuistic problem. The rules and SOPs for managing pesantren actually\nalready exist, but the oversight aspect needs to be strengthened\ntogether,\u2019 Iqbal said.<\/p>\n
He added that the NTB Provincial Government will optimise the Task\nForce for Handling Violence in Pesantren, which involves elements of\nForkopimda, the Child Protection Agency (LPA), and non-governmental\norganisations (NGOs).<\/p>\n
