Ipunk lies about police summons: Maj. Gen. Dibyo<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Dibyo Widodo said on
\nSaturday that Ruyalti, the ex-girlfriend of Harnoko Dewantono,
\nalias Oki, the main suspect in the Los Angeles triple murder, has
\nbeen questioned by police.<\/p>\n
During the questioning session, Ruyalti, known as Ipunk, 22,
\nadmitted that she bought a wooden box on the orders of Oki, 30,
\nwhen they were still living in Los Angeles between 1987 and 1991,
\nbut she did not know what the box was for.<\/p>\n
The newly-installed city police chief made the remarks to deny
\nthe statements made a day earlier by Ruyalti, who claimed that,
\nso far, she has never been summoned, nor questioned, by city
\npolice.<\/p>\n
\"Police have questioned Ipunk. This can be proven from a
\nprepared dossier,\" Dibyo told reporters on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\"Ipunk admitted that she followed the order, as was stated in
\nthe dossier,\" the city police chief said. \"But, it was a wooden
\nbox, not plastic bag as reported by the media,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Dibyo gave no further comment on whether or not it was a
\ncoffin.<\/p>\n
Ipunk told a press meeting on Friday that she has never been
\nquestioned by city police in connection with the murder case.
\n\"Even through a phone call,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Ipunk, a model, had an intimate relationship between 1987-1991
\nwith Oki, the prime suspect in the killing of his business
\npartner of Indian origin, Suresh Mirchandani, his Indonesian
\nfemale friend, Gina Sutan Aswar, and his own brother, Tri Harto
\nDarmawan, known as Eri.<\/p>\n
Suresh was believed to have been killed in 1991, while Gina
\nand Eri in the following years.<\/p>\n
Dibyo said that Ipunk was questioned in order to find out her
\nalleged role in helping the main suspect in the killing (of
\nSuresh).<\/p>\n
In the dossier, Ipunk had already asked Oki about the
\nobjective of buying the wooden case. She quoted Oki as replying
\nthat the box would be used for his cloth and goods, Dibyo said.<\/p>\n
The city police chief told reporters that the investigation of
\nthe murder case is nearly completed.<\/p>\n
\"We're just waiting for the arrival of our team from Los
\nAngeles (today) before handing over the dossiers to the
\nprosecutors office,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Since the identification of the three dead bodies by the Los
\nAngeles police last December, Oki has been listed as a wanted
\ncriminal by the Los Angeles Police Department.<\/p>\n
He was apprehended in Central Jakarta on Jan. 7 in connection
\nwith an alleged passport forgery case and has since been
\nquestioned for his alleged role in the triple murder.<\/p>\n
A number of Jakarta senior police detectives have been in Los
\nAngeles to collect information and material evidence since early
\nlast week.<\/p>\n
Several media publications have reported that Oki might also
\nhave played a certain role in an international drug syndicate.<\/p>\n
A reliable source revealed that he allegedly had something to
\ndo with the distribution of a certain type of drug linking Latin
\nAmerica, the United States, the Netherlands and Indonesia.<\/p>\n
But Jakarta police officers are still in doubt about the
\ninformation.<\/p>\n
\"We only know that Oki is a consumer of cocaine, which he got
\nfrom someone in Mexico,\" a senior officer at the Crime
\nInvestigation Directorate told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The officer, who asked not to be named, said that he will try
\nto question Oki for his alleged role in such a syndicate.<\/p>\n
\"During several questioning sessions, he admitted that he was
\nonly a user, not a member of any syndicate,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Another officer said that the name Oki has never been listed
\nwith the city police as a member of any drug syndicate.<\/p>\n
According to city police spokesman Lt. Col. Bambang Haryoko,
\nwho met the suspect on Friday, Oki is still in good health.<\/p>\n
\"He has been working, helping us file data on our computer
\nsystem of prisoners currently in police custody,\" Bambang said.
