The Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming has detailed the government's progress in attracting investment and advancing downstream industries to meet the ambitious target of 8% economic growth. The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) noted that investment contributed 29% to national economic growth in 2026, prompting a continued push for improved licensing and downstreaming across various sectors. Challenges remain, however, including Indonesia's high Incremental Capital Output Ratio (ICOR), which indicates lower efficiency compared to regional peers like Vietnam.

The Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of
BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu, has shared updates on the progress and
achievement of investment and downstreaming targets aimed at reaching an
8% economic growth target and 13,000 trillion IDR in realised investment
over the five-year term of the Prabowo-Gibran administration.

BKPM noted that by 2026, investment contributions have accounted for
29% of national economic growth. Consequently, BKPM continues to drive
efforts to increase investment realisation by creating a favourable
investment climate, improving licensing services, and promoting
downstream industries in the mining, plantation, and forestry sectors,
as well as oil and gas, fisheries, marine sectors, and new and renewable
energy (EBT) businesses.

On the other hand, Indonesia’s efforts to attract investment face
several challenges related to the country’s high Incremental Capital
Output Ratio (ICOR) score, which remains in the 6.3-6.5 range. This is
linked to Indonesia’s relatively low efficiency compared to other ASEAN
nations such as Vietnam.

In an effort to attract investment and drive downstream projects, the
Ministry of Investment is implementing several strategies, including
simplifying licensing through the Online Single Submission (OSS)
platform.
",
