'Investigate irregularities'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Deputy Governor Idroes ordered yesterday the
\nCentral Jakarta Mayor to investigate reports authorities had
\nillegally cut land compensation money to residents in Gunung
\nSahari Utara.<\/p>\n
Idroes said officials found guilty should return the money and
\nbe punished.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, 10 delegates representing 120 families complained
\nto the City Council.<\/p>\n
The residents had been ordered to move from their shanties
\nalong the Kali Mati canal and were entitled to Rp 105,000
\ncompensation per square metre.<\/p>\n
However, the delegates told the council local authorities had
\nsaid the residents had to pay the authorities between Rp 500,000
\nand Rp 1 million.<\/p>\n
The residents said they did not know why they had to pay.<\/p>\n
Residents said they were intimidated into accepting the
\ncompensation deal.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday the mayoralty ordered the homes to be demolished in
\nseven days.<\/p>\n
The residents, who are mostly food sellers, have an average of
