Inventory of wealth<\/p>\n

Sinar Pagi states that according to the law observer from the
\nAirlangga University in Surabaya, M. Zaidun, quoting the 20th
\nCongress of the Islamic Students Association (HMI), the inventory
\nof officials' wealth is a pre-requisite to a \"clean government.\"<\/p>\n
In fact the formulation of an inventory of wealth for
\nIndonesian officials has yet to be legalized. So, the least we
\ncan do is to formulate a bill for that purpose, if a clean
\ngovernment is really to be achieved.<\/p>\n
This reminds me of a long-time regulation, Presidential
\nDecision No 52\/1970, which requires the listing of the wealth of
\nofficials. So far this regulation has never been implemented. I
\ndo not know for sure whether the decision has been revoked by the
\ngovernment or not, because for the past 24 years we have not
\nheard anything about it.<\/p>\n
In its congress HMI also discussed the need to limit the
\npresidential terms of office as well as other important issues. I
\nthink there is no use in discussing this particular issue because
\nit's a waste of time and energy. Dozens of seminars made this
\nissue their focus of agenda, but no follow-up actions have been
\ntaken.<\/p>\n
