Int'l performers have Bali dancing<\/p>\n

Bali was still dancing Sunday after international stars,
\nincluding disco queen Gloria Gaynor, played a special \"peace\"
\nconcert to honor the holiday isle rocked by deadly terrorist
\nblasts in October.<\/p>\n
About 8,000 people packed into the sprawling Garuda Wisnu
\nKencana site in the island's south on Saturday night for the
\nWorld Peace Music Award Show, held according to organizer Matt
\nTaylor to draw international attention to troubled Bali.<\/p>\n
Taylor said the event was organized to underscore the
\n\"peaceful response\" of the people of Bali to the October 12
\nbombing that killed 202 people from 21 countries.<\/p>\n
The attack shattered the island's image of peace and
\ntranquility and paralyzed its tourism-dependent economy as
\ntourists canceled trips to its sunny beaches.<\/p>\n
\"I have done some shows in Asia and never seen a crowd like
\nthis,\" said Taylor.<\/p>\n
Security was tight for the show, with 1,200 police patrolling
\nthe open-air venue, including a detachment of plain-clothes
\nofficers who mingled among the audience.<\/p>\n
Local village ritual guardians also helped enforce security.<\/p>\n
The bill included artists from Australia, Japan, Korea, USA,
\nLatin America, France, United Kingdom, and Ireland as well as
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
Among the big-name performers were veteran disco star Gaynor,
\nIrish rock group Rubyhorse, British Reggae star Maxi Priest and
\nNorth African Rai group Zohar.<\/p>\n
Also, Jon Farriss from Australian rock group INXS, Korean
\nvocalist Yoon Do Hyon, Mexican latin group Kinky and France's
\nbaroque singer Emma Shapplin, appeared.<\/p>\n
Indonesian performers included rock band Slang and diva Kris
\nDayanti as well as controversial racy-dancing singer Inul
\nDaratista.<\/p>\n
Members of legendary British punk band The Police, Stewart
\nCopeland and Andy Summers, were also billed but were delayed by
\nflight problems.<\/p>\n
Gaynor and Dayanti were among those honored by the event's
\norganizers with \"peace awards\".<\/p>",
