Intitirta produces mineral water<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Grahamas Intitirta, a subsidiary of the Kodel
\nGroup, entered into the competitive mineral water business by
\nlaunching its first mass produced packaged drinking water,
\nmanufactured in Kuningan, West Java.<\/p>\n
The company said that the company's plant is capable of
\nproducing 18 liters of mineral water per second.<\/p>\n
It said the construction of the water processing and bottling
\nplant, worth Rp 6 billion (US$2.6 million), was financed with
\nloans from the state-owned Bank Rakyat Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The company's president, Boedi Rahardjo, was quoted as saying
\nthat Grahamas produced mineral water under the brandname of
\nBatavia for the domestic market -- with distribution in Jakarta
\nand West Javanese cities -- and Mount Blanc for exports.<\/p>\n
He said Grahamas plans to cooperate with Cameron Spring, an
\nIndiana-based mineral water corporation in the United States to
\nmarket its products worldwide.<\/p>\n
Data from the Indonesian Bottled Drinking Water Association
\nshow that competition between packaged mineral water producers
\nhas been growing tighter.<\/p>\n
Pioneered by one company in 1973, the number of mineral water
\nproducers grew to three in 1983 and to 125 in 1991. There are now
\n195 bottled mineral water companies operating in 19 provinces.<\/p>\n
Big cities like Jakarta are the most lucrative markets with
\nstiff competition among producers with various brands.<\/p>\n
Big cities, therefore, are very vulnerable to counterfeiting.
\nLast week, for example, police smashed a syndicate of producers
\nand distributors of fake mineral water.<\/p>\n
The alleged producers of the fake mineral water admitted that
\nthey had distributed bottled water to both street and household
\nconsumers in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. (kod)<\/p>",
