It is public knowledge and usual practice.<\/p>\n<p>But some street vendors along Pasar Tanah Abang in Central<br>\nJakarta have used intimidation and force to make people buy their<br>\ngoods.<\/p>\n<p>Like many shoppers, we took our time glancing at the goods<br>\nbeing displayed by a street vendor there. We had no real<br>\nintention of buying anything.<\/p>\n<p>The street vendor in question, accompanied by his friends, in<br>\nturn treated us very roughly and intimidated us.<\/p>\n<p>Fearing trouble, we eventually submitted into their pressure<br>\nand bought the goods even though the prices were higher than they<br>\nshould have been. The street vendor refused to produce any change<br>\nin the transaction.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully other shoppers will take more care in dealing with<br>\nsuch vendors.<\/p>\n<p>Name and address<\/p>\n<p>withheld<\/p>",
