International networking called for<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indigenous businessmen should employ the
\ninternational networking of Chinese, Japanese, European and
\nAmerican entrepreneurs to better make their way into foreign
\nmarkets, a local businessman said Saturday.<\/p>\n
\"They are currently in control of the world economy. It is
\nsuch networking rather than the governments that will have more
\nsay in the economy,\" chairman of the Association of Indonesian
\nIndigenous Businessmen (HIPPI), Iman Taufik, said at a seminar on
\ndomestic businesses.<\/p>\n
He said that in order to compete with international networks,
\nindigenous businessmen need to improve the skills of their
\nstaffs, work hard and eliminate elements of the high cost economy
\nfrom their business sectors.<\/p>\n
To narrow the widening gap between indigenous and non-
\nindigenous businessmen, the government should also play a key
\nrole in creating conducive conditions for both of them to grow,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
\"In this case, the government should take sides with the
\nindigenous businessmen by, for example, making it easy for them
\nto get credit. The government design regulations to protect the
\ninterests of small and medium-scale businessmen so that they will
\nnot be edged out by their bigger competitors,\" he said. (13)<\/p>",
