Jakarta \u2013 Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has called on\ninternational airlines operating routes to or transiting Middle Eastern\nairspace to heighten their security precautions, following escalating\ntensions between Iran, Israel and the United States. Several airlines\nhave been significantly impacted by the conflict in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome international flights passing through the Middle East have been\naffected, with some cancelled, though some routes remain unaffected so\nfar. We therefore urge airlines to increase vigilance and encourage\npassengers to actively monitor the latest information,\u201d said Dudy in\nJakarta on Sunday, 1 March 2026.<\/p>\n
Multiple foreign carriers have announced flight cancellations and\nsuspended operations to and from all Middle Eastern cities following the\nIran-Israel conflict escalation. Airlines that have cancelled or\nsuspended operations include Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates,\nEthiopian Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Indigo\nAirlines, Sri Lanka Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Singapore\nAirlines and Scoot.<\/p>\n
Saudia Airlines is monitoring several Middle Eastern destinations,\nwhilst Ethiopian Airlines continues operations but has suspended flights\nto Amman (Jordan) and Tel Aviv (Israel).<\/p>\n
Both Indonesian domestic carriers transiting Middle Eastern\nairspace\u2014Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air\u2014have so far remained unaffected\nby the conflict. The Transport Minister noted that Garuda Indonesia and\nLion Air flights to Jeddah remain operational, whilst Garuda\u2019s Amsterdam\nservice has been rerouted via Cairo (Egypt).<\/p>\n
The minister stressed that flight safety and security remain the top\npriority. The Transport Ministry continues to coordinate with Airnav\nIndonesia, airlines, airport operators and foreign authorities to update\ninformation on Middle Eastern airspace security and ensure flights\nremain safe and efficient.<\/p>\n
Several countries have closed their airspace to all arrivals and\ndepartures, including both commercial and private flights. These nations\ninclude Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq and\nSyria.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have coordinated with and requested airlines to monitor Middle\nEastern airspace conditions, including for pilgrimage travel,\u201d said\nDudy.<\/p>\n
Given the flight cancellations and schedule adjustments, the minister\nhas instructed airlines and airport operators to provide appropriate\nassistance to affected passengers in accordance with applicable\nprocedures. This includes processing cancellations at immigration\noffices, arranging accommodation and rebooking flights.<\/p>\n
