Intercon clarifies confusion on public facilities<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Noted businessman Probosutedjo in his capacity
\nas a member of PT Intercon Enterprise board of directors went to
\nthe city administration yesterday to clarify a misunderstanding
\nwith his company concerning public facilities.<\/p>\n
Probosutedjo admitted that his company has failed to hand over
\nsocial and public facilities the firm built on its real estate
\ncomplex in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, to the city administration.<\/p>\n
According to the existing regulation, any developer building
\nhousing estates or other housing projects is required to build a
\nnumber of public and social facilities, including roads, parks,
\nschool buildings and places of worship. These facilities have to
\nbe handed over to the city administration as soon as the projects
\nare completed.<\/p>\n
Probosutedjo told reporters after a meeting with the City
\nCouncil's Commission D, which is in charge of development, that
\nthe misunderstanding was caused mainly by an absence of
\ncommunication between employees of his company and officials of
\nthe city administration.<\/p>\n
\"Most employees of my company are busy handling field work,
\nwhile at the same time it was not easy for the firm's employees
\nto meet officials of the administration,\" Probosutedjo said.<\/p>\n
For example, when officials of the administration visited the
\ncompany's headquarters no one was available because all of them
\nwere in the field. Likewise, when his employees tried to contact
\nofficials of the administration they were out.<\/p>\n
Probosutedjo visited the City Council yesterday to explain to
\nthe councilors as to why PT Intercon Enterprise has yet to
\nfulfill its obligation by handing over social and public
\nfacilities to the administration.<\/p>\n
Earlier, West Jakarta Mayor Sutardjianto suspended operational
\nfacilities to six developers, including PT Intercon, for failing
\nto abide by existing regulations.<\/p>\n
The administration has given land appropriation permits to PT
\nIntercon to appropriate 325 hectares of land in Meruya Udik,
\nJoglo and Srengseng subdistricts in West Jakarta and in turn the
\ncompany is obliged to set aside 20 percent of the area for the
\nconstruction of social and public facilities.<\/p>\n
Probosutedjo said that the company has actually built several
\nfacilities such as parks, roads and gutters but has not yet
\nhanded them over to the city administration.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged that his company has not built schools and
\nplaces of worship because there are already a lot of such
\nfacilities in the area.<\/p>\n
\"Instead of building new and similar facilities, we decided to
\ncontribute funds to renovate existing school buildings and places
\nof worship,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Probosutedjo, who is also President Soeharto's younger
\nbrother, explained that building facilities that the area already
\nhas would be completely futile.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the chairman of Commission D, Bandjar Marpaung, who
\nagreed with Probosutedjo's argument, suggested that the developer
\nask permission from the city administration to contribute the
\nfunds to the existing facilities rather than building new ones.
