        "content": "<p>A land dispute that sparked deadly conflict between villages on\nAdonara Island, East Flores Regency, has officially ended through a\npeaceful resolution involving traditional rituals and a mutual\nagreement. The reconciliation was witnessed by East Nusa Tenggara Deputy\nGovernor Johni Asadoma on Monday (10\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Governor Asadoma praised the magnanimity of the community\nleaders for choosing dialogue, emphasising that peace is crucial for\nrestoring brotherhood and enabling development. \u201cIn life, conflict is\nsometimes unavoidable. But the most important thing is that we learn\nfrom it and do not repeat the same mistakes,\u201d he stated, noting that the\nprevious land conflict had resulted in loss of life and property.<\/p>\n<p>Asadoma stressed that in any conflict, there are no true winners, as\nthe primary casualty is the bond of brotherhood. He highlighted the\nsignificance of the traditional rituals, including \u2018Lepan Dopi Ledan\nGala\u2019 and the \u2018Jeda Sakral\u2019, which symbolise the laying down of shields\nand spears. \u201cLet us revive the spirit of living in harmony as brothers\nand sisters, born from the same womb,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Governor asserted that a safe and peaceful environment is\nan absolute prerequisite for sustainable development on Adonara.\nGovernment programmes, including the construction of roads, schools,\nhealth facilities, and economic and tourism development, cannot function\noptimally amidst conflict.<\/p>\n<p>The event was attended by regional leaders across sectors, including\nEast Nusa Tenggara Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Pol. Faizal,\nEast Flores Regent Antonius Doni Dihen, and Deputy Regent Ignasius Boli,\nalongside military and human rights officials. East Flores Regent\nAntonius Doni Dihen thanked the traditional elders for their momentous\ndecision to pursue peace, calling the day a historic milestone for the\npeople of Adonara.<\/p>\n<p>The reconciliation process included the reading of a peace commitment\nand the signing of an official Peace Agreement. This was followed by a\ntraditional oath and the \u2018Bau Lolon\u2019 ritual performed by elders from\nLewonara and Bele, sanctifying the agreement before \u2018Rera Wulan Tana\nEkan\u2019 (God and the Universe). The community also participated in the\n\u2018Sambung Koda Haten\u2019 ritual to restore familial bonds and break the\ncycle of intergenerational vengeance.<\/p>\n<p>This reconciliation marks the culmination of efforts to resolve the\nland dispute that triggered violent clashes on Saturday (18\/7\/2026),\nwhich resulted in three deaths and the burning of 68 houses.<\/p>",
