        "content": "<p>Intellectual wooed by politicians<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Intellectual Emha Ainun Nadjib, who has been<br>\nwooed for membership by the three political contestants, said<br>\nSunday he did not care less if his name was used for publicity by<br>\nany political party.<\/p>\n<p>Emha earlier turned down the United Development Party's (PPP)<br>\noffer of a seat in the House of Representatives. He was also<br>\nreportedly approached by the ousted leader of the Indonesian<br>\nDemocratic Party (PDI), Megawati Soekarnoputri.<\/p>\n<p>The three political organizations -- PPP, PDI, and the ruling<br>\nGolkar -- will compete for 425 seats in the 500-seat House<br>\nRepresentatives in next year's election. The remaining 75 seats<br>\nhave been allocated to the Armed Forces, whose members do not<br>\nvote.<\/p>\n<p>\"I don't mind if any of the political organizations contesting<br>\nnext year's election want to use my name. Even Allah Almighty<br>\ndoes not seem to mind if His name is exploited for practical<br>\npurposes,\" said Emha during the launching of the book Tadjus<br>\nSobirin Tokoh Tanggung dari Kampung (Tadjus Sobirin. Halfway Hero<br>\nfrom the Village).<\/p>\n<p>Tadjus is chairman of the Jakarta chapter of Golkar.<\/p>\n<p>Emha, a Yogyakarta-based playwright, poet and columnist, said<br>\nIndonesia was in the midst of psychological and political<br>\nconflicts. He did not elaborate.<\/p>\n<p>He said only \"the ability to laugh at ourselves is therefore<br>\nextremely crucial for the nation to ease the tension\".<\/p>\n<p>Emha's critical stance on various sociopolitical issues have<br>\nin the past resulted in the banning of his plays or poetry<br>\nreadings in several cities.<\/p>\n<p>Also known for his dry humor, Emha said he was attracted to<br>\nTadjus for the latter's deep sense of humanity and not because of<br>\nhis political affiliation.<\/p>\n<p>Tadjus is outspoken. When he was regent of Tangerang, West<br>\nJava, he grabbed nationwide attention by placing a knife in front<br>\nof a Golkar executive and asking him to slit his throat if he<br>\nfailed to win victory for Golkar in his regency.<\/p>\n<p>Aburrahman Wahid, leader of the 30-million strong Nahdatul<br>\nUlama Moslem organization, said in the book's prologue that<br>\nTadjus should be noted for his loyalty to the public.
