        "content": "<p>Intellectual groups host seminar<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Five religious-based intellectual associations<br>\nhave scheduled an impressive line-up of guests to speak at their<br>\nseminar on national culture next week.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar, to be opened on Nov. 10 by President Soeharto and<br>\nclosed by Vice President Try Sutrisno on Nov. 13, will be divided<br>\ninto four sessions discussing issues of security and defense,<br>\ntraditional family values, education and religion, and religious<br>\nvalues.<\/p>\n<p>It will take place at Taman Mini, Cornelius D. Ronowidjojo,<br>\nthe chairman of the organizing committee, told reporters<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The five sponsors of the seminars are the Association of<br>\nChristian Intelligentsia (PIKI), the Association of Indonesian<br>\nMoslem Intellectuals (ICMI), the Association of Catholic Scholars<br>\n(ISKA), the Association of Buddhist Intellectuals (KCBI) and the<br>\nAssociation of Hindu Intellectuals (FCHI).<\/p>\n<p>The event is being held to refute allegations that the growing<br>\ninfluence of these organizations, particularly ICMI's, has<br>\nrevived sectarian politics in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Cornelius of PIKI said the first session on defense will<br>\npresent Armed Forces Chief Gen. Feisal Tanjung, military thinker<br>\nGen. (ret.) Soemitro and Juwono Sudarsono, the Deputy Governor of<br>\nthe National Resilience Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The second session on family values will feature State<br>\nMinister of Population Haryono Soeyono, and four experts in the<br>\nfield: T. O. Ihromi Simatupang, Dadang Harawi, Matulada and Siti<br>\nHartati Murdaya.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Education and Culture Wardiman Djojonegoro and<br>\nMinister of Religious Affairs Tarmizi Tahir top the list of<br>\nspeakers for the third session. They will be accompanied by<br>\nformer home minister Rudini, legislator Sabam Sirait and human<br>\nrights campaigner Roekmini.<\/p>\n<p>The last session brings together leaders of the main religions<br>\nin Indonesia including Hasan Basri (Moslem), Julius Cardinal<br>\nDarmaatmadja (Roman Catholic) and Soelarso Sopater (Christian).<br>\n(rms)<\/p>",
