Intel has reportedly begun small-scale trial production of chips for Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs. This move comes after Apple explored a potential renewed partnership with Intel to diversify its chip production, which has been primarily reliant on TSMC for nearly a decade. While TSMC is expected to remain the primary supplier, Intel's involvement could strengthen Apple's supply chain and align with the US government's push for increased domestic technology production.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Intel has begun trial production of chips for
various Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs, according to
supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

As reported by Macrumors on Thursday (May 14), Apple had previously
been reported to be exploring a renewed partnership with Intel to
produce chips for its devices after nearly a decade of relying solely on
the Taiwanese semiconductor company, TSMC.

Apple previously used Intel processors in its Mac line before
switching to ARM-based Apple Silicon in 2020.

Intel’s chip production for Apple devices is expected to gradually
increase between 2027 and 2028. However, it is not yet known which
A-series or M-series chips will be produced by Intel.

However, TSMC is expected to continue supplying more than 90 percent
of Apple’s chip needs in the coming years.

Intel’s involvement is also said to be limited to the chip production
process, not the processor design. This means that the chips will still
be designed by Apple, while Intel will only be responsible for producing
them in its factories in the United States.

This move is seen as potentially providing several benefits for
Apple, including strengthening its supply chain and reducing production
costs by having more than one chip supplier.

In addition, the partnership with Intel is also considered to
strengthen Apple’s position amid the US government’s push to increase
technology production in the country.

As of now, there has been no official announcement from Apple
regarding the potential new partnership.
",
