        "content": "<p>Institution vows to meet requirement<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): An educational institution said yesterday it<br>\nwould continue with its management training while trying to<br>\nincrease its faculty members as requested by the Ministry of<br>\nEducation and Culture.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry&apos;s office for higher education last week announced<br>\nit would not accept applications to register new students of the<br>\nInstitute Pengembangan Wiraswasta Indonesia (Indonesian Institute<br>\nfor the Development of Entrepreneurship, IPWI). IPWI was also not<br>\nto accept any more students.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The institution&apos;s activities will continue while we seek more<br>\nlecturers,&quot; Kartomo, the institute&apos;s executive chairman, said<br>\nFriday.<\/p>\n<p>Students of private higher learning institutes must be<br>\nregistered with the ministry&apos;s office to be eligible to sit for<br>\nstate university tests.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry said it would not register more IPWI students<br>\nbecause the institution had failed to comply with the requirement<br>\nof one lecturer to every 20 students.<\/p>\n<p>The institution was found to have only one lecturer to every<br>\n100 students. The ministry then turned down IPWI&apos;s registration<br>\napplications for 1,000 new students.<\/p>\n<p>Kartomo said the institution had met with a ministry official,<br>\nand that IPWI had been given one year to employ more lecturers.<\/p>\n<p>Kartomo said IPWI had 4,500 students which included<br>\nunregistered students.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1990, 1,600 people had graduated from the<br>\ninstitution, most of whom were government officials.<\/p>\n<p>The minister&apos;s director of higher learning, Joetata<br>\nHadihardaja, also rejected the registration of IPWI students in<br>\nits provincial programs.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman of the institute&apos;s foundation, Soemitro, said<br>\ntheir management programs also lacked requisites set by the<br>\nministry.<\/p>\n<p>Higher education programs in provinces must have at least four<br>\npermanent lecturers with doctorate degrees and two with master&apos;s<br>\ndegrees.<\/p>\n<p>Soemitro said it was difficult to find provincial lecturers<br>\nwith doctorate degrees who had time to teach.
