Instant 'tiwul' produced in Gunungkidul<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamegkubuwono X
\non Thursday officially opened an instant tiwul factory owned by
\nPT Sinar Sukses Sentosa on Jl. Sudirman, Mungi, Semanu,
\nGunungkidul.<\/p>\n
Tiwul is a traditional staple food made of dried
\ncassava, often used as a substitute for rice in the arid
\nGunungkidul area.<\/p>\n
Director Anton Juwardi said his company had made an initial
\ninvestment of some Rp 3.57 billion in setting up the factory.<\/p>\n
Occupying some 1,000 square meters of land belonging to Semanu
\nvillage and another 456 square meters of land belonging to the
\ndistrict government of Gunungkidul, the factory can produce
\nsome 500 kilograms of instant tiwul a day.<\/p>\n
Juwardi said that the company would produce four
\ndifferent types of instant tiwul, including
\nSari Tiwul (original flavor), and Nutritiwul (with three
\ndifferent flavors: fried chicken, fried potato and salted fish).<\/p>\n
The instant tiwul is available in 250 gram and 500 gram
\npacks.<\/p>\n
"The price ranges from Rp 3,500 to Rp 5,000 per
\npack," Juwardi said.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Sultan said the
\nestablishment of the factory in Gunungkidul would help to improve
\nthe incomes of local people as well as reduce their dependence on
\nrice -- whose cultivation was relatively unsuited to the area.
