Instant noodles off the menu<\/p>\n
PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: Recent reports that dozens of people
\nsuffered food poisoning after eating instant noodles have taken
\nits toll on the giant manufacturer PT Indofood Sukses Makmur.<\/p>\n
The company said its province-wide sales tumbled by as much as
\n50 percent in the past month since the first reports started
\ncoming in.<\/p>\n
The company is now rerouting its surplus noodle products to
\nother nearby provinces, South Sumatra manager Teddy Pranatio
\nannounced, as reported by the Antara news agency.<\/p>\n
Five people were killed and dozens of others hospitalized
\nearly this month, reportedly after consuming instant noodles.<\/p>\n
Health authorities investigating the case later found that
\nthere was nothing wrong with the noodles and that the source of
\nthe poisoning could have come either from the water or utensils
\nused to cook them.<\/p>\n
Teddy said his company had also carried out its own
\ninvestigation, checking on stores which might be selling its
\nnoodle products past their expiration dates or with broken
\nwrappings.<\/p>\n
Indofood plans to launch a campaign at leading stores to
