I deplore the Salami instant noodles advertisement on
\ntelevision for its jingle taken from Indonesia Tanah Air Beta.
\nThis song embodies the pride of the Indonesian nation. Moreover,
\nit is one of the national songs often sung by elementary and
\njunior high school students.<\/p>\n
It is feared that many Indonesians who have for a long time
\nadmired the song by Pranajaya, who used the theme of national
\nunity, will be disappointed after hearing the song on television
\nused for promoting an instant noodle product.<\/p>\n
The advertisement may boost the sales of Salami instant
\nnoodles, but it is doubtful if consumers are still willing to buy
\nthe product if the advertisement uses a national song for
\ncommercial purposes. This song should be used as a public service
\nto foster national unity, in a noncommercial promotion. There are
\nmany Indonesian song composers who are able to make jingles for
\ncommercial purposes.<\/p>\n
