        "content": "<p>Public pressure over the death of a Southeast Maluku state madrasah\n(MTsN) student, identified by the initials AT (14), has compelled senior\npolice leadership in the region to speak out.<\/p>\n<p>Maluku Police Chief Inspector General Dadang Hartanto conveyed a\ndirect apology to the victim\u2019s family and assured the public that the\ncase would be handled seriously and without compromise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe extend our condolences and offer our sincere apologies to the\nvictim\u2019s family. This tragedy is a matter of grave concern for us and\nwill be handled with the utmost seriousness,\u201d he said, as quoted on\nSaturday, 21 February 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The apology followed allegations of assault carried out by First\nClass Private MS, a member of Brimob Company 1, Pioneer Battalion C. The\nincident proved fatal for AT.<\/p>\n<p>First Class Private MS has been secured and detained at the Tual\nDistrict Police detention facility. Criminal proceedings are under way,\nand simultaneously an ethics tribunal is being conducted by the\nProfessional Affairs and Security Division (Bid Propam) of the Maluku\nRegional Police.<\/p>\n<p>Should the ethics tribunal find a violation of the National Police\nProfessional Code of Ethics, the severe sanction of Dishonourable\nDischarge (PTDH) may be imposed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are handling this case firmly and through multiple layers.\nCriminal proceedings are ongoing, and the code of ethics process is also\nproceeding. If found guilty, the sanctions will be clear and decisive,\u201d\nHartanto said.<\/p>\n<p>Internally, oversight of the case handling has reportedly been\ntightened. Maluku Regional Police Public Relations Chief Senior\nCommissioner Rositah Umasugi stated that the Internal Affairs Inspector\nand the Head of the Professional Affairs Division are both monitoring\nthe legal process.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Brimob Detachment Commander of the Maluku Regional\nPolice has travelled to Tual City to ensure all stages of the case are\nhandled in accordance with procedures and to conduct internal oversight\nof personnel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis step reflects the commitment of the Maluku Regional Police\nleadership to ensure every process is conducted objectively,\nprofessionally, and with full accountability,\u201d Rositah said.<\/p>\n<p>She also urged the public not to be provoked by unverified\ninformation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Maluku Regional Police urges the public to remain calm, not be\ninfluenced by unverified information, and to place full trust in the law\nenforcement process being carried out by the police,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred on Thursday, 19 February 2026, near the\nUningrat Campus in Tual City, Maluku. The Brimob officer allegedly\nassaulted the madrasah student, resulting in the teenager\u2019s death. The\nMaluku Regional Police has confirmed that the legal process against its\nmember will proceed without compromise.<\/p>",
