Innovative services make customers always reachable<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Satelindo, Indonesia's first
\ntelecommunications operator of the Global System for Mobile
\nCommunications (GSM), is committed to always making its
\nsubscribers easier to reached.<\/p>\n
Among the services developed by the company are mobile
\ndata\/facsimile, short message, voice mail and call waiting.<\/p>\n
Short message, voice mail, call waiting and forwarding are
\nstandard features extended by most GSM operators.<\/p>\n
The short message service allows subscribers to receive
\nalphabetical messages of up to 160 characters on a handset
\ndisplay. If the handset is switched off, the message will be
\nstored in a central memory and will be displayed when the
\nterminal is switched on.<\/p>\n
Call forwarding is the alteration from a subscribers number to
\nother number programed on several handset conditions including
\nunconditional, busy line, no reply, and not reachable.<\/p>\n
Voice mail is the advanced facility of call forwarding, in
\nwhich a message can be stored in voice mail box facility.<\/p>\n
Call waiting allows subscribers to understand that there is an
\nincoming call waiting while they are using the handsets.<\/p>\n
Mobile data and facsimile service is the newest facility
\nintroduced by Satelindo. Through this service, subscribers will
\nbe able to send and receive data and facsimile transmissions from
\nSatelindo's GSM handsets to facsimile machines using normal
\ntelephone lines and vice versa.<\/p>\n
One of the most innovative services to be introduced by
\nSatelindo is the roaming facility.<\/p>\n
At present, the company has roaming facilities in 12 foreign
\ncountries, which will total 20 to 30 foreign countries by the end
\nof this year.<\/p>\n
Roaming services allow GSM customers to use their local
\ncellular telephones in foreign countries to call operators in
\nIndonesia and vice versa.<\/p>\n
The current 12 countries offering roaming facility for
\nSatelindo's subscribers are Thailand, Britain, Germany, the
\nPhilippines, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore,
\nAustralia, Denmark, Switzerland and Finland.<\/p>\n
The company even plans to extend the roaming facility to the
\nUnited States, a country which does not apply the GSM system.<\/p>\n
\"Through a very clever way, by using the call forwarding
\nservice, DeTeMobil, one of Satelindo's shareholders, has applied
\nthe roaming facility to its customers in the U.S.,\" said
\nSatelindo's deputy marketing director Mario Cardinali.<\/p>",
