Inhumane electric train service<\/p>\n

The electric train plying the Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and
\nBekasi (Jabotabek) route is very much needed by the residents of
\nthose suburban towns. Unfortunately, the service provided by this
\ntrain is worsening. The capacity of the train is not compatible
\nwith the number of passengers it carries.<\/p>\n
Ironically, state-owned railway company PT KAI has not
\ninfrequently canceled the scheduled departure of morning or
\nafternoon trains on weekdays when there are a lot of passengers.
\nAs a result the next train in the schedule will be manifestly
\novercrowded, a condition really torturing the passengers,<\/p>\n
Many of the passengers, particularly women and old people,
\nalmost faint because of being tightly squeezed from all
\ndirections like sardines in a can. Quite a few passengers have to
\nrisk their lives standing at the door, very often sticking their
\nbodies out. This is almost a daily sight and if it is allowed to
\ngo on the consequence will eventually be fatal to some of the
\npassengers.<\/p>\n
Once, passengers were kept waiting at the Kota Station for an
\nextended period and when the long-awaited train arrived they
\nalmost exploded in fury but were stopped a few hundred meters
\naway from entering the station. It was night and very clearly
\nthere was no other train coming to the station. It turned out
\nlater that the signal system was broken. The question is why in
\nsuch a situation no officers were available at the station?<\/p>\n
