        "content": "<p>Infrastructure needs $1.5t<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AFP): Developing countries in Asia will need to<br>\ninvest US$1.2 trillion to $1.5 trillion in infrastructure over<br>\nthe next decade, according to a World Bank report.<\/p>\n<p>China represents 51 percent of those needs, followed by Korea<br>\n(18 percent), Indonesia (11 percent), Thailand (10 percent),<br>\nMalaysia and the Philippines (three percent), according to the<br>\nreport &quot;Infrastructure Development in Asia and the Pacific:<br>\nToward a New Public-Private Partnership.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The investment input is needed to sustain economic growth,<br>\nmake up for inadequate past investment, and cope with massive<br>\nurbanization and the globalization of world trade.<\/p>\n<p>The report, issued here on Tuesday, said the public sector had<br>\nneither the resources nor the organizational capacity to come up<br>\nwith the massive investment needed -- and that the private sector<br>\nwould have to pick up the slack.<\/p>\n<p>Private infrastructure has paid off, the report said, in<br>\nChina, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines in such areas as<br>\ntelecommunications, energy and toll roads, if less so in water<br>\nsupply and port facilities.<\/p>",
