Inefficiency in Pertamina?<\/p>\n

Some are under the impression that inefficiency exists in
\nstate-owned oil company Pertamina. This was noted during a
\nhearing of the minister of mines and energy with Commission V of
\nthe House of Representatives recently. Unfortunately the
\nstatement was rather vague and gave no mention of the particular
\nsection\/department where inefficiency supposedly exists.<\/p>\n
Such vagueness only makes it difficult for laymen as well as
\nobservers of oil affairs to correctly interpret the situation,
\nand the commission may have a biased view.<\/p>\n
In fact, Pertamina has made continuous efforts to improve
\nefficiency and made every employee aware of the need to achieve
\nthat goal. For example, the organization has been streamlined.
\nThe company has worked in cooperation with Elnusa Patra Teknik in
\nthe maintenance area. A cost-reduction program has been
\nimplemented. While other state-owned companies have raised their
\nemployees' basic salaries over the years, Pertamina has not done
\nso for 10 years. All Pertamina's efforts are clear proof that the
\ncompany is concerned about efficiency and has worked for it
\nconsistently. Besides, all results of annual auditing by the
\ncompany's internal audit board, like the inspectorate general,
\nand that done by external bodies such as Development and
\nFinancial Control Board (BPKP), have been declared \"fair and
\nsatisfactory without exception\".<\/p>\n
May these comments of mine be heard by the members of House
\nCommission V and convince them that the company's employees have
\nworked honestly with dedication and responsibility in compliance
\nwith Pertamina's mission.<\/p>\n
