Industrial Product Expo to be in August<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The government has appointed PT Napindo
\nMediapratama, a company owned by tycoon Sudwikatmono, to
\ncoordinate the Indonesian Product Exhibition 1995, to be held on
\na 24,000-hectare plot at the Jakarta Fairground from Aug. 12
\nuntil Aug. 27.<\/p>\n
Minister of Industry Tunky Ariwibowo told a press conference
\nyesterday that the appointment of Napindo was based on the fact
\nthat this year's production exhibition would, for the first time,
\nnot rely on government funding.<\/p>\n
The government has thus far conducted two similar exhibitions
\n-- in 1985 and 1990 -- both with its own funds.<\/p>\n
\"The private sector will contribute the larger part of the
\nbudget for this year's exhibition,\" Tunky said.<\/p>\n
Sudwikatmono, who was also present at the press conference,
\npredicted that the exhibition would cost Rp 15 billion (US$6.8
\nmillion).<\/p>\n
\"The consequence of being chosen to be the coordinator of the
\nexhibition is that we have to raise funds ... And our main
\ntargets are conglomerate owners,\" Sudwikatmono said.<\/p>\n
He noted that although a few of conglomerate owners are
\ncynical about the exhibition, others have expressed support.<\/p>\n
\"If we cannot collect Rp 15 billion, we'll adjust our programs
\nin accordance with the funds available,\" Sudwikatmono said.<\/p>\n
In addition to the exhibition, the committee will conduct a
\nnumber of supporting activities, such as seminars, social
\ngatherings and cultural shows. (rid)<\/p>",
