Indosat raises investment<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): State-owned PT Indosat has decided to increase
\nits investment in the Personal Communication Network (PCN)
\nproject.<\/p>\n
PCN is the next generation of digital wireless telephone
\nsystems that uses light, inexpensive mobile phones with long
\nbattery life to communicate via low power antenna.<\/p>\n
The company held an extraordinary general meeting of
\nshareholders here yesterday to approve changes in investment in
\nthe PCN project.<\/p>\n
"The meeting approved up to 30 percent additional investment
\nof Indosat in the PCN project, beyond the investment approved in
\nthe April 10 annual shareholders' meeting, which comes to over Rp
\n100 billion and grants authority to the commissioners to sign the
\nagreement for its implementation," the company said.<\/p>\n
The PCN project is carried out by a joint venture between
\nthree state-owned firms: Indosat, PT Telkom and PT Inti. The
\nproject has won approval from the government to set up a joint
\nventure for the provision of the Digital Cordless System (DCS-
\n1800).<\/p>\n
Indosat said it would control the majority shares in the
\nprospective project.<\/p>\n
The meeting also approved the appointment of Agus Haryanto,
\nhead of legal and public relations of the finance ministry, as
\nIndosat's new commissioner, replacing Harry Supangkat who is now
