JAKARTA \u2014 Indonesia\u2019s investment realisation growth in the first\nquarter of 2025 slowed compared to the same period last year, with\nauthorities highlighting problems ranging from thuggery to business\nlicensing.<\/p>\n
Investment and Downstreaming Minister\/BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani\nreported that investment realisation reached Rp465.2 trillion during\nJanuary to March 2025, growing 15.9% year on year (YoY). By comparison,\ninvestment realisation in Q1 2024 reached Rp401.5 trillion, representing\ngrowth of 22.1% YoY \u2014 meaning last year\u2019s investment growth was higher\nthan this year\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Rosan declined to comment on the slowdown in investment growth.\nNevertheless, he highlighted several issues. The former chairman of the\nIndonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) stated that his\noffice wished to continue improving the domestic investment climate.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow do we provide greater certainty, both in terms of timeframes and\nlicensing,\u201d Rosan explained at a press conference at the BKPM office in\nSouth Jakarta on Tuesday (29 April 2025).<\/p>\n
He also raised the issue of thuggery disrupting the investment\nclimate. Rosan acknowledged receiving complaints from investors\nregarding such problems.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are coordinating with the National Police Chief and also with\nregional governments to ensure these things do not happen, as they have\na negative impact on incoming investment,\u201d Rosan said.<\/p>\n
Previously, construction of a factory for Chinese electric vehicle\nmanufacturer BYD at the Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Estate in West\nJava was disrupted by thuggery carried out under the guise of civil\nsociety organisations (ormas). This was conveyed by Deputy Speaker of\nthe People\u2019s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno during a working\nvisit to BYD\u2019s assembly centre in Shenzhen, China.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were problems related to ormas-linked thuggery disrupting the\nconstruction of BYD\u2019s production facilities. I believe the government\nneeds to be firm in handling this issue,\u201d he said via his Instagram\naccount, as quoted on Monday (21 April 2025).<\/p>\n
