Indonesia\u2019s Gresik Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has amassed\nRp 113.4 trillion or around $6.4 billion in cumulative investments so\nfar as of the first quarter of 2026 as the government mulls expanding\nthe industrial park.<\/p>\n<p>About Rp 108.2 trillion ($6.1 billion) of those investment inflows\nhad come after the area \u2013 which lies in East Java \u2013 gained its SEZ\nstatus. The SEZ has created over 40,000 jobs since then. Indonesia\u2019s\nfirst melamine plant \u2013 worth up to $600 million \u2013 is now under\nconstruction at Gresik SEZ. The region also hosts Freeport\u2019s copper\nsmelter.<\/p>\n<p>Susiwijono Moegiarso, the secretary at the Coordinating Ministry for\nEconomic Affairs, confirmed that expansion plans for the Gresik SEZ were\nin the pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis expansion would be a strategic step to accommodate the\ninvestors\u2019 high interest,\u201d Susiwijono said over the weekend, as reported\nby the state news agency Antara.<\/p>\n<p>The move is also expected to spur the creation of an \u201cintegrated\nindustrial and port ecosystem\u201d, while also providing an impetus for\ngreen energy.
