Indonesia's Foreign Ministry is actively pursuing diplomatic channels with Iran to secure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for two Pertamina oil tankers currently delayed amid a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran. This effort underscores the national importance of ensuring uninterrupted oil transport, addressing technical issues like insurance and crew safety while upholding international navigation freedoms under UNCLOS. The broader context involves US President Trump's optimistic claims of a total victory in the ceasefire, contrasted by Iran's leadership warnings that it does not end the conflict, highlighting ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting global energy trade routes.

Iran has stated it will open the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks
following the agreed ceasefire between the United States (US) and Iran.
Currently, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) has revealed that two
Pertamina-owned tankers are still unable to pass through the Strait of
Hormuz.

The government is continuing diplomatic efforts to enable these
oil-carrying ships to transit. Indonesia’s Kemlu, along with the
Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, has coordinated with the Iranian
government. They have also communicated with the Iranian embassy in
Jakarta.

“The main point is that we are striving to ensure the Pertamina ships
can cross the Strait of Hormuz,” said Kemlu spokesperson Vahd Nabyl
during a press conference at the Kemlu office in Central Jakarta on
Wednesday (8/4/2026).

“And this is also being handled by the Foreign Minister in meetings
with the Iranian Ambassador, as well as by our Ambassador in Tehran with
Iranian authorities,” he added.

He mentioned that several technical matters are being addressed to
allow the Pertamina ships to pass. The government must also ensure the
safety of the crew transiting the area.

“And currently, the developments underway involve several quite
technical issues that are being followed up to ensure safety for
crossing there. This includes, among other things, matters like
insurance and crew readiness,” he explained.

Nabyl stated that all parties must comply with international law. The
government wants freedom of navigation to be respected.

“And as mentioned at the beginning, in principle, we certainly want
to request that freedom of navigation be respected in accordance with
international law and UNCLOS,” he said.

Nabyl noted that there are currently two Pertamina-owned ships
detained in the Strait of Hormuz: the Pertamina Pride and the MT
Gamsunoro. The government is working to resolve issues related to
national interests.

Trump Claims Victory

US President Donald Trump has claimed that the US has achieved a
“total and complete victory” after agreeing to a two-week ceasefire with
Iran. Trump believes the ceasefire will lead to a long-term agreement
between the US and Iran as negotiations continue this week.

As reported by AFP on Wednesday (8/4), Trump appeared optimistic
about the ceasefire with Iran, which he announced just before the
deadline he had set for a massive attack on Tehran.

In an exclusive telephone interview with AFP after the announcement,
Trump also expressed his belief that China had persuaded Iran to
negotiate and said that Tehran’s enriched uranium would be “handled
perfectly.”

“A total and complete victory. 100 percent. No doubt about it,” Trump
said in the brief interview with AFP when asked if he was claiming
victory with the ceasefire.

Trump, in an announcement via Truth Social on Tuesday (7/4) evening,
said he “agreed to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks.”
However, he warned that this came with conditions, namely that Iran must
reopen the Strait of Hormuz “FULLY, IMMEDIATELY, and SAFELY.”

With uncertainty regarding arrangements for reopening the Strait of
Hormuz for oil traffic in particular, Trump insisted there is a strong
framework for a long-term deal.

“We have a 15-point transaction, most of which has been agreed upon.
We’ll see what happens. We’ll see if the deal is reached,” he said.

Trump, in his statement, referred to the 10-point proposal submitted
by Iran as a basis for further negotiations and “implementable.”

However, Trump did not answer firmly when asked if he would return to
his threats to destroy Iran’s civilian power plants and bridges if
further negotiations fail to produce an agreement.

“You’ll have to see for yourself,” Trump told AFP.

Mojtaba: Not the End of the War

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has instructed all military
units of his country to cease attacks following the agreed two-week
ceasefire with the US. However, Mojtaba also warned that the ceasefire
“is not the end of the war.”

Khamenei’s statement, as reported by NDTV and Hindustan Times on
Wednesday (8/4), was delivered by the state-owned Islamic Republic of
Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) station after the US and Iran announced they
had agreed to a two-week ceasefire in negotiations mediated by
Pakistan.

“This is not the end of the war, but all military branches must obey
the Supreme Leader’s orders and stop firing,” said Mojtaba Khamenei in
his statement.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council separately issued a similar
warning, stating that “our finger remains on the trigger,” signalling
Tehran’s readiness to strike if the enemy acts in any way.

“It is emphasised that this does not signify the end of the war,” the
Supreme National Security Council of Iran stated in a release after the
ceasefire announcement with the US.

“Our finger remains on the trigger, and if the enemy makes the
slightest mistake, it will be responded to with full force,” the Supreme
National Security Council of Iran asserted.

Mojtaba’s statement was released while he was reported to be
unconscious and undergoing emergency medical treatment in the city of
Qom, Iran.

His condition has raised serious doubts about who is actually leading
Iran amid the war raging against the US and Israel in recent weeks.
",
