        "content": "<p>Indonesia&apos;s first virtual university starts enrolling students<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia&apos;s first multimedia and Internet-based <br>\nvirtual university, which provides lectures and tutorials through <br>\nthe Internet, has started enrolling students.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian Bangkit University Teledukasi (IBUTeledukasi) <br>\noffers both undergraduate and graduate programs on information <br>\ntechnology, information systems, information technology <br>\nmanagement and business administration.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We are making a breakthrough by promoting low-cost education <br>\nand preparing the nation to face global challenges,&quot; Adi Sasono, <br>\ncofounder and chairman of the board of directors of the <br>\nuniversity, told reporters at the formal launching of the <br>\nuniversity last Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The university is run by Perhimpunan Bangkit Indonesia, a non-<br>\ngovernmental organization under the Association of Indonesian <br>\nMuslim Intellectuals (ICMI), in cooperation with Malaysia&apos;s <br>\nUniversity of Tun Abdul Razak (Unitar), the first virtual college <br>\nin Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>Adi, a former cooperatives minister, said most of the lectures <br>\nwould be given through cyberspace, while students could consult <br>\ntheir tutors using the Internet&apos;s chatting facility.<\/p>\n<p>Le Ikhsan K Amin, customer service manager of IBUTeledukasi <br>\ntold The Jakarta Post last Friday that the cost of studying at <br>\nthe university was relatively cheap compared to prominent private <br>\nuniversities. &quot;Students, for example, are not required to pay a <br>\nbuilding maintenance fee,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the four-year undergraduate program at IBUTeledukasi <br>\nwould cost students around Rp 16 million, while at other private <br>\nuniversities it cost between Rp 20 million and Rp 40 million.<\/p>\n<p>According to Le Ikhsan, at least 30 people have enrolled at <br>\nIbuteledukasi through its office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, <br>\nwhile another 1,500 people have enrolled through Unisula in <br>\nSemarang.<\/p>\n<p>Interested parties can also enroll online through the <br>\nuniversity&apos;s website www.ibuteledukasi.com, starting mid August. <br>\n(07)<\/p>",
