        "content": "<p>\u201cStrengthening disaster risk mitigation policies grounded in research\nand innovation is a strategic necessity for sustainable regional\ndevelopment,\u201d he said in a statement on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Octavian said evidence-based policymaking is crucial to ensure\ndisaster responses are rapid, accurate and sustainable.<\/p>\n<p>Amid ongoing recovery efforts in parts of Sumatra, he noted that BRIN\nhas established a task force to support mitigation measures,\nunderscoring the government\u2019s push for a science-driven approach to\ndisaster management.<\/p>\n<p>He called on regional administrations to integrate disaster risk\nreduction into key planning documents, including regional medium-term\ndevelopment plans, annual government work plans and contingency\nframeworks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis approach ensures disaster mitigation becomes an integral part\nof regional development strategies, not merely a reactive measure,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Citing West Sumatra as an example, Octavian said the province has\nimplemented strong mitigation policies despite high exposure to\nearthquakes, tsunamis, floods and landslides.<\/p>\n<p>He commended the provincial government and its disaster management\nagency for aligning policies and strengthening cross-sector\ncollaboration.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, Octavian said BRIN will intensify efforts to bolster\nnational resilience by advancing research-based mitigation, developing\ndynamic risk maps, expanding disaster risk education and strengthening\ncooperation with central and regional institutions.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the agency will mobilize its regional offices to\npromote research and innovation nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisaster mitigation cannot rely solely on experience.
