        "content": "<p>Indonesians hopeful of economic outlook<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian consumers are confident about the<br>\ncountry's economic outlook despite their concern over high<br>\ninflation.<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent survey conducted by Mastercard<br>\nInternational, 88 percent of Indonesian consumers surveyed were<br>\neither neutral or optimistic about employment prospects.<\/p>\n<p>Around 93 percent of Indonesian consumers were neutral or<br>\nconfident of a prosperous future, and only 1 percent was worried<br>\nabout a regular income in the future.<\/p>\n<p>These findings were reported in the latest bi-annual<br>\nMasterIndex of Consumer Confidence, a survey of consumer<br>\nconfidence in 10 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.<br>\nBetween 500 and 522 consumers from middle and upper income groups<br>\nwere surveyed in each country in June 1995.<\/p>\n<p>The survey was conducted in Indonesia, Australia, Hong Kong,<br>\nIndia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and<br>\nTaiwan.<\/p>\n<p>\"Consumer confidence in Indonesia is soaring, which is a very<br>\npositive sign,\" Brian Thom, the senior official of Mastercard<br>\nInternational, was quoted by the report as saying. \"However, our<br>\nsurvey revealed that inflation remains a concern across the<br>\nentire region.\"<\/p>\n<p>In Malaysia, the survey found a positive shift in opinion,<br>\nwith 75 percent of respondents optimistic about the future of the<br>\neconomy, up from 64 percent in the last survey. The view on<br>\nemployment also improved - up from 48 percent to 65 percent.<\/p>\n<p>On the whole, Singaporeans have no strong feelings - either<br>\nnegative or positive - about their future prospects, with 55<br>\npercent neutral about regular income prospects, 58 percent<br>\nneutral on employment prospects and 42 percent neutral on the<br>\nfuture of the economy.(hen)<\/p>",
