Indonesian workers extorted<\/p>\n

When many Indonesian workers (TKI), returning from abroad for
\nthe Idul Fitri holidays, landed at the Soekarno-Hatta
\nInternational Airport, they were extorted.<\/p>\n
First they faced customs officers who had intentionally
\nprepared a special counter for the inspection of the TKI. The
\nairport porters, without being solicited, then pushed the TKI's
\nluggage trollies. The porters could have collaborated with the
\ncustom officers.<\/p>\n
Outside the terminal, taxi drivers and their illegal brokers
\ndirectly took the TKI to cars that were already \"reserved\" for
\nthem.<\/p>\n
We appeal to the extortionists operating at the airport to
\nhave a little mercy on the TKI because they are our own people.
\nThey, after having worked hard abroad to earn a living, are being
\nextorted by their own nation.<\/p>\n
We also ask the government, sequentially administered by Pak
\nHarto, Habibie and Abdurrahman Wahid, to keep its promise, i.e.
\nto eliminate discrimination against Indonesian citizens of
\nChinese descent, particularly regarding compliance documents.<\/p>\n
For example, if a Chinese Indonesian wants to apply for a
\npassport, why does it still have to be supported by change of
\nname certificate etc. The officials usually discriminate after
\nobserving the applicants physical appearance (face, eyes, skin).<\/p>\n
Why doesn't it apply to other Indonesian citizens of Arabic
\ndescent or other ethnic groups?<\/p>\n
