Jakarta (ANTARA) - Mataram Naval Base (Lanal) of the Indonesian Navy\nhas thwarted the smuggling of illegal untaxed cigarettes transported by\ntruck at Pelindo Port Dermaga in Lembar Village, Lembar District, West\nLombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, on Monday 9 March.<\/p>\n
In an official press statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday, it was\nexplained that the interception began when naval personnel inspected\nevery vehicle exiting the KMP Jambo XI ferry with a route from Perak\nPort in Surabaya to Pelindo Lembar Port.<\/p>\n
Personnel inspected one truck that appeared suspicious. Upon\ninspection, personnel discovered stacks of illegal untaxed\ncigarettes.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the initial inspection, a total of 70,956 cigarette sticks of\nillegal untaxed cigarettes were found packed in approximately 30 sacks,\u201d\nsaid First Admiral Tunggul, Head of the Indonesian Navy Information\nService (Kadispenal), when confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Tunggul continued that, based on their estimate, the presence of\nthese illegal cigarettes has the potential to cause state losses\nestimated at approximately IDR 380 million.<\/p>\n
Beyond the stacks of sacks full of cigarettes, officers also detained\ntwo people acting as the truck\u2019s driver and assistant driver.<\/p>\n
The authorities then handed over all evidence and the two suspects to\nlaw enforcement for legal proceedings.<\/p>\n
