From now on, all personnel,
including officers, must possess specific competencies required for
operating an aircraft carrier,” Yayan said during a discussion entitled
“Indonesia’s Blue Water Transition: Why High-Value ASW/AAW Assets Will
Decide Its Credibility,” which was held online on Wednesday.

Yayan added that the number of crew members could even exceed 500, as
it does not yet include non-core crew members, such as those outside the
navigation and flight crews.

In addition to the crew, the Navy must also prepare supporting
infrastructure for the aircraft carrier, such as docking facilities and
other technical requirements that the ship will need.

Furthermore, there are logistical needs for the crew who will be
stationed on the ship for extended periods.

“We can imagine that docking in a location requires logistical
support for a crew of 500. This is just the core crew. There is also the
crew for flight operations, aviation systems, and so on,” said
Yayan.

Although there are many preparations to be made, Yayan is confident
that the Indonesian Navy is ready to meet these requirements to ensure
the optimal operation of the aircraft carrier. Currently, the Indonesian
Navy is still awaiting the completion of the acquisition process, which
is underway at the Ministry of Defence and with the Italian authorities,
as well as Fincantieri, the shipbuilding company.
",
