Ashim Romadhony, 23, an Indonesian student at the Mohamed Bin Zayed\nUniversity for Humanities, witnessed firsthand Iranian missiles and\ndrones repelled by the United Arab Emirates\u2019 air defence system in the\nsky over Sharjah\u2019s Al Jada District. The Indonesian citizen said he\nheard bangs and saw flashes since Iran\u2019s first strike on the UAE. \u201cThe\nbangs and flashes in the sky were heard and seen very clearly,\u201d Ashim\ntold reporters on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.<\/p>\n
Iran launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on the UAE from\nSaturday, 28 February 2026. Iran\u2019s action is a retaliatory strike\ncarried out after actions by Israel and the United States. Iran attacked\nlocations hosting US bases or facilities, including Abu Dhabi and\nDubai.<\/p>\n
During the first attack, Ashim was in his dormitory in Al Jada\nDistrict, Sharjah City. The location of the dormitory was fairly distant\nfrom the initial strike.<\/p>\n
Things became more tense on the second and third days. He witnessed\nIranian missiles being deflected by UAE defence systems in the Sharjah\nsky. According to him, the escalation in his area rose and fell. Local\nmedia outlets reported that Iranian missiles targeted the Office of the\nUnited States Consulate General and the port area.<\/p>\n
The situation affected Ashim\u2019s studies. All campus activities were\nshifted from face-to-face to online for a week ahead \u201cfor security\nreasons,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Embassy and the Indonesian Consulate General have\nadopted a Siaga III status for Indonesian citizens in the UAE since 28\nFebruary 2026 as a precaution amid rising tensions in the Middle East.\nSiaga III is the initial level of readiness, meaning the government asks\nIndonesians to heighten vigilance, limit outdoor activities, and follow\nlocal authorities\u2019 instructions and diplomatic advisories.<\/p>\n
Ashim noted that the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi asked\nIndonesians to heighten vigilance, reduce outdoor activities, and avoid\nlocations likely to be affected. Indonesians were also asked to stay\nready, including preparing an emergency bag containing important\ndocuments. \u201cPreparation if conditions worsen at any time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
As of Sunday afternoon, the UAE Ministry of Defence said it had\ndetected 165 ballistic missiles, destroyed 152, and intercepted two\ncruise missiles.
