Why do Indonesian music groups have foreign names? Bad Apples,
\nAB Three, Base Camp, Five Minutes and most recently R42 who has
\nstated that it must be spelled the English way.<\/p>\n
Watching their video clips I was somewhat taken by surprise.
\nAfterwards I was amused. Their traits surfaced often enough.<\/p>\n
As recently as 1992 the Jakarta city administration enforced a
\nregulation stipulating companies and shops had to use the
\nIndonesian language on their name plates, street banners and
\nbillboards.<\/p>\n
Actually Indonesian names for music groups are attractive,
\nsuch as Band Halmahera, Band Pegangsaan and Adegan. We would be
\nproud if their names are often included in MTV.<\/p>\n
