        "content": "<p>Medan (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and\nGeophysical Agency (BMKG) has cautioned fishermen and other stakeholders\nto remain vigilant regarding the potential for high waves in several\nwaters off North Sumatra that could disrupt maritime navigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExercise caution regarding the potential for high waves between 13\nand 15 March 2026. Sea waves could reach 1.5 to 2.5 metres,\u201d said Rizki\nFadhillah Pratama Putra, a forecaster at BMKG\u2019s Belawan Maritime Class\nII Meteorological Station, in Medan on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Wind patterns in the northern region of Indonesia generally move from\nnorthwest to northeast with wind speeds ranging from 5 to 25 knots,\nwhilst in the southern region of Indonesia they generally move from\nsouthwest to northwest with wind speeds ranging from 8 to 30 knots.<\/p>\n<p>Several waters potentially affected by high waves include the waters\nwest of the Nias Islands, waters west of the Batu Islands, waters of the\nBatu Islands, and the Indian Ocean west of the Nias Islands.<\/p>\n<p>Fishing boat captains are urged to exercise caution when wind speeds\nreach 15 knots and wave heights reach 1.25 metres, and barge operators\nwhen wind speeds reach 16 knots and wave heights reach 1.5 metres.<\/p>\n<p>Light rain with low intensity may occur on Friday morning, with\npotential occurrence in North Tapanuli, North Labuhanbatu, Mandailing\nNatal, South Nias, North Nias, Padang Lawas, Padangsidimpuan,\nLabuhanbatu, South Labuhanbatu, Asahan and Batu Bara.<\/p>\n<p>From midday to evening, weather is forecast to be cloudy with\npotential light to moderate rainfall in the Langkat region and\nsurrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>For evening hours, weather in North Sumatra is expected to be\ngenerally cloudy with potential light rain in most areas, whilst in the\nearly morning hours weather is forecast to be cloudy with potential\nlight rain in several areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBMKG urges the public to remain vigilant regarding the potential for\nmoderate rainfall in the western and eastern slopes of North Sumatra\nthat could trigger hydrometeorological disasters such as flooding and\nlandslides,\u201d the official said.<\/p>",
