Indonesian legislators meet U.S. lawmakers<\/p>\n
WASHINGTON (JP): A three-member delegation from the Indonesian
\nHouse of Representatives met with United States lawmakers here in
\nan attempt to build closer relations and provide more factual
\ninformation about developments in their country.<\/p>\n
\"Through dialog, we hope that they will understand the
\nsituation in Indonesia and be willing to help,\" Sazili Marjani
\ntold reporters in Washington Thursday.<\/p>\n
Sazili said he told U.S. lawmakers of the complexity of
\nIndonesia's problems.<\/p>\n
\"They expressed their interest in Indonesia, although they are
\nmore focused on the problems in their own country,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Another House member, Marwah Daud Ibrahim, said that the U.S.
\nCongress expected a lot from the new government of President B.J.
\nHabibie.<\/p>\n
\"They are glad to hear some information about the changing
\ngovernment directly from us,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Sazili said the delegation has also urged the International
\nMonetary Fund and the World Bank to disburse more money to
\nIndonesia. \"We thanked them on the recently approved loan
\npayment,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Indonesia will fulfill all the commitments it made to the
\ninternational institutions, he said adding that \"We, the House of
\nRepresentatives, will oversee the use of the funds,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The delegation also met with officials from the U.S. State
\nDepartment, the National Security Council and some non-
\ngovernmental organizations.<\/p>",
